Lion shot after it kills its trainer
A lion was shot dead at a zoo in east China’s Shandong Province after it attacked a trainer, who escaped from its cage, but later died in hospital.
Taishan Scenery Area managers said the attack happened at 6:20am in Tai’an Tiger Mountain Park, when the trainer was cleaning the cage.
Police were called to shoot the lion to ensure visitors’ safety.
In a similar attack in March, a zookeeper was mauled by a tiger at a zoo in east China’s Jiangxi Province.
The zookeeper, surnamed Gong, was cleaning the tiger’s cage at the zoo in Chuntai Park in Yichun City when it pounced on him and bit him.
Other zoo staff rushed to drive away the tiger and injected it with tranquilizers.
Gong was seriously injured and died about an hour after the attack.
