Loader driver shot dead by police after killing 1, injuring 3 in road rampage

A man was shot dead by police after he knocked off several police cars, injured three police officers and killed a pedestrian while driving a loader in Shanxi Province.

The man, who was not identified, was shot and killed by the armed police about 9:30am on Thursday on site after police failed to stop him by other means, an unnamed responsible person with local police told thepaper.cn.

A witness told the website that the incident happened on around Gubei Street and Zhangliao Road of Shuozhou City. A yellow loader allegedly ran into vehicles and pedestrians and damaged several vehicles on the street. Police cars were sent trying to stop the loader, which headed into the police cars instead and turned over some of them, the witness was quoted as saying.

A document about the incident, allegedly from Shuozhou's police command center, was posted on the Internet.

The unnamed responsible person confirmed the document with the website.

According to the document, the command center received reports that a loader ran insanely along major streets of the city, including Shifu Street and Zhangliao road. Police were sent to stop the road rampage.

During the action, three police officers were injured; five police cars were damaged. A pedestrian was crushed to death. Several vehicles which belonged to local residents were also damaged.

The driver was shot at 10:40am near Huihe Bridge, as police failed to stop him by other means.

Investigation is still ongoing and there’s only one perpetrator of the case, the unnamed responsible person told the website.
