Long arms found for the rescue of dolphin
A man with arms measuring 1.05 meters long showed up at the Nanjing Underwater World this morning to heed a SOS call to save the life of a five-year-old performing dolphin that swallowed a volleyball and its life is now in peril.
Zhang Mengyong, who is 2.26 meters tall, arrived at the aquarium in Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu Province at 6:10am after the aquarium called for public help yesterday and many microbloggers helped to spread the news.
Zhang and the dolphin are now on their way to a hospital where veterinarians will try a new plan to get the ball out with Zhang's long arms.
The aquarium staff had tried to hook the ball out by burning a small hole in the ball or placing a noose around the ball. But both attempts failed.
Meng Da, a professional basketball player with a Jiangsu team, rushed to the aquarium yesterday but the 1.95-meter-tall forward's arms were not long enough to reach the ball in the dolphin's stomach.
