Low amount in Heilongjiang
China detected low levels of radioactive material iodine-131 in the air above Heilongjiang Province yesterday, saying it was released from a quake-damaged nuclear power plant in Japan, according to China's National Nuclear Emergency Coordination Committee.
The committee said no protective measures are needed as iodine-131 levels are below one-hundred-thousandth of the average.
The committee also reiterated that both public health and the environment remain unaffected by radioactivity released from the crippled nuclear power plant.
