Ma seeks re-election
TAIWAN'S leader Ma Ying-jeou kicked off his campaign for re-election as the ruling Kuomintang party's chairman yesterday.
"We cannot stop reforming and we have to shoulder our responsibilities," Ma said as he registered his candidacy.
Ma has rejected some criticism that he vies for the KMT leadership out of his personal interests. "I humbly accept if (people) say I have not worked hard enough but I don't accept that some people say that I pursue personal interests," he said.
The KMT will elect a new chairperson in July. Party members will vote from July 20 and the results will be announced on July 22.
