Macau crash claim is ‘complicated’
A compensation claim made by passengers injured in a tour bus crash in Macau could be very complicated and time-consuming, a local newspaper reported yesterday, quoting an insurance expert.
At least 32 tourists from the mainland were injured, three seriously, on Monday when a tour bus crashed into a building in Macau.
The driver was arrested for suspected dangerous driving, the Macau authorities said.
The Macau Public Security Police Force said the accident happened when the bus stopped above a street close to the Ruins of St Paul, one of Macau’s most famous tourist attractions.
A white van rear-ended the bus and the bus driver got off to check for damage. Then the bus suddenly rolled down a slope and crashed into a building.
According to the Macao Daily News, the accident claim involves multiple parties, including the bus owner, the passengers, the driver, travel agencies, the building owner and the affected households on the street, which will make it a convoluted process that could take at least a year to complete.
