Mainland welcome for overseas NGOs
Overseas NGOs are welcome to carry out friendly exchanges and cooperation in China, authorities said yesterday.
They will be provided with efficient and convenient services and their legitimate rights and interests will be protected, according to a statement from the overseas NGOmanagement office of the Ministry of Public Security.
To date, authorities in Shanghai, Beijing and south China’s Guangdong Province have issued registration certificates to 32 representative offices of NGOs from outside the Chinese mainland, the ministry said.
Registration for overseas NGOrepresentative offices became mandatory from January 1. Adopted by the top legislature last April, the new law requires all NGOs outside the mainland to secure approval to operate here.
To support the process, the ministry has released a registration guideline, set up registration counters at provincial-level police authorities and launched a website.
