Majority of nurses feel work stressful: survey

NEARLY 90 percent of surveyed nurses feel intense pressure at the workplace as a result of difficult labor, psychological influences and disproportionate pay, according to survey results released yesterday.

The survey, conducted by the China Hospital Association in March among 8,000 nurses in 59 hospitals, showed that only 10 percent of nurses believe the intensity of their work is at an appropriate level.

While more than 79 percent of respondents said they are more aware of their personal rights as the result of nursing regulations introduced in 2008, only 60 percent indicated they feel respected by others.

Yu Xiaochu, vice president of the Peking Union Medical College Hospital, said nurses' welfare and working conditions should be improved.

Yu said society should better respect nurses.

Nurses account for 2.24 million of the country's 6.2 million health care workers.
