Man accused of accidentally killing his father on hunting trip

A MAN was arrested for accidentally killing his father while hunting in Chongqing Municipality, a local newspaper reported today.

Wu Yonghua accidentally shot his father in the heart when he mistakenly thought he was a wild boar while hunting on December 31, according to the Chongqing Morning Post report. He allegedly covered up the shooting by burying his father's body after saying his dad was killed when he fell and his own gun fired.

Villagers reported the case to police, which lead to Wu's arrest.

Wu, his father and three villagers went to Liang Bian Yan to hunt boar on December 31, traditionally a good time for hunting the animal, the report said.

They reached the mountainous area at noon. It was snowing. Wu's father tracked a boar by its footprints in the snow. The man ran into a tree, which shook the branches. Wu mistakenly thought it was a wild boar and fired his gun immediately.

Wu rushed happily to the tree thinking he killed a boar, only to find his father covering his chest with his hands. His father reportedly said: "How could you shoot me?"

Wu shouted for help as he held his dying father in his arms, the report said.

In custody Wu allegedly said: "Next year would have been my father's 60's birthday. I planned a banquet for him, but now I can't even show my filial obedience."

The man had a meager income, which he used to support his wife and Wu's two children.

Both father and son are from Fengdu County in Chongqing.
