Man accused of throwing child to ground arrested
A SUSPECT who hurled a 2-year-old girl onto the ground was arrested in Beijing yesterday, while the girl remained in critical condition, the Beijing News reported today.
The suspect, surnamed Han, had been released from jail on Tuesday after serving a larceny sentence.
Han quarreled that same day with a woman with the girl in a baby stroller because she wouldn't move so he could park his car near a bus stop in Daxing District in Beijing at about 8:50pm, police said.
Han beat up the woman and then picked up the 2-year-old girl in the stroller, lifting her above his head and hurling her to ground, police said. Han then drove away. Many bystanders witnesses the incident.
The woman, crying loudly, embraced the girl, who didn't make any sound after she was thrown to ground. She rushed her to a hospital.
Beijing police said they caught Han, who was hiding in a hotel in Fangshan District, at 3pm yesterday.
The girl was transferred to Bejing Tiantan Hospital for emergency treatment because of her serious injuries.
She was still intensive care this afternoon and doctors said the situation was not optimistic, Beijing News reported. There were no specifics on what type of injuries she had. She had stopped breathing several times, the report said.
