Man admits drunken killing spree

A MAN admitted killing five people including a seven-month-pregnant woman and his own girlfriend when he appeared in a Beijing court yesterday.

Zhang Wei, 31, was facing manslaughter charges at the Beijing No.2 Intermediate People's Court, China News Service reported.

Prosecutors told the court that Zhang drank a mixture of spirits, red wine and beer on December 31 last year to celebrate New Year's Eve with his girlfriend, surnamed Zhang, and his friend, surnamed Shen.

But a drunken quarrel broke out between the two men and, at Zhang's home in Beijing's Daxing District, he picked up a knife and stabbed Shen.

Zhang's girlfriend began to scream when she saw the blood and Zhang stabbed her too.

After that, the court was told, he went to Shen's home and killed Shen's parents and his wife, who was seven months pregnant.

Zhang then called police to give himself up.

The court didn't announce a verdict yesterday.
