Man, allegedly suffering depression, commits suicide on flight by bumping head onto lavatory basin
A male passenger on board a Xia'men Airlines flight tried to commit suicide last night by bumping his head onto the wash basin in lavatory, the airline said today.
Crew members onboard the flight MF8362 from Haikou in south Hainan Island to Xiamen in southeast Fujian Province heard some loud bumping noises coming from inside the lavatory at around 9:45pm, 45 minutes after the Boeing 737 aircraft took off.
The crew knocked the door but received no response, so they opened the lavatory with emergency keys and found the male passenger, about 20 years old, were bumping his head onto the wash basin, an official with the airline said.
The man bled a lot and his blood can be found splashing over the basin and ground.
The crew control the man with the help of security guards onboard and wrapped the wound for him.
Two passengers traveling with him told the man suffered depression and they took him to travel for relaxation.
The man calmed down later and was in stable condition. He was sent to hospital after the plane landed.
