Man appeals judge-stabbing sentence

A MAN lodged an appeal after he was sentenced to death for stabbing four judges in north China because a court refused to review his application for state compensation.

Wang Qiang was sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve last month after he was found guilty of attempted murder by the Intermediate People's Court of Cangzhou City, Hebei Province, The Beijing News reported yesterday.

In July 2010, Wang rushed into the Intermediate People's Court of Qinhuangdao City and stabbed four judges with a knife, injuring two seriously.

Wang committed the crime after the Qinhuangdao court again dismissed his application for state compensation for his father, who was accidentally shot by a police officer and became wheel-chair ridden in 1994.

Police caught Wang's father and six others gambling. He was ordered to pay a 2,000 yuan (US$308) fine, but refused. He tried to escape but police officer Li Hetian caught him by the neck. Li's gun fired accidentally and Wang's father was paralyzed in the mishap.
