Man arrested for fatal beating of stepson, 2
A MAN in rural central China has been arrested on the charge of deliberate injury after beating his 2-year-old stepson to death.
Xinzheng City Procuratorate Office didn't charge him with manslaughter because he did not intend to kill the boy and did try to rescue the boy, yesterday's Zhengzhou Evening News reported.
Li Hailong, farmer of Baqian Town of Xinzheng City, beat the boy because the boy woke him up when he needed to go to the toilet on January 28, the report said.
The report alleged that annoyed Li slapped and punched the boy, causing serious brain damage.
Founding the boy breathless, a horrified Li tried to provide artificial respiration and sent him to a hospital shortly after he regained breath. But the boy died three days later.
According to prosecutors' investigation, Li married the boy's mother, surnamed Sun, two years ago under the arrangement of their parents.
Sun married Li when she was four months pregnant by an ex-boyfriend.
Despite the poor relationship with Sun, Li loved the boy, Sun told the newspaper.
After giving birth to a girl with Li last year, Sun went to work in Beijing, leaving the two children with Li.
Li felt embarrassed with the two kids and sometimes beat them to make them obedient, according to prosecutors.
Li is willing to shoulder all responsibility for the death, even at the price of his own life, his father told the Zhengzhou Evening News.
