Man arrested for offering fetal gender scan service
A mason in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei Province has been arrested for allegedly doing fetal gender identification for hundreds of pregnant women with an ultrasound scanner. His illegal service has led to several abortions, the Changjiang Daily reported today.
Police in the city's Xinzhou District said yesterday that the mason surnamed Li learned about the fetal gender identification method when he did decoration work for a clinic in 2007.
In August 2009, Li bought a B-ultrasound scanner for 8,000 yuan (US$1,252) and has done fetal sex identification for hundreds of pregnant women to earn profits. Most of his clients came to him through the introduction of their relatives and friends.
Police said Li's illegal business had caused several abortions. He had been fined several times by authorities but he didn't stop at all.
Police are still investigating his case.
