Man blackmails officials with forged porn photos
POLICE in eastern Zhejiang Province arrested a man on charges of blackmailing more than 40 government officials with forged porn pictures, Zhejiang Online reported today.
The 35-year-old offender surnamed Jia is a resident of Taizhou City. He allegedly sent blackmail letters to more than 40 government officials in Wuyi County between December 21 and 23 last year.
Police said these letters were sent to the officials by express mail. In the letters Jia claimed that he was a computer repairman and found pornographic photos from a client's computer. He would "keep silent" if he was paid 10,000 yuan (US$1,584).
Each letter was printed with two obscene photos showing the face of the receiver.
Police found that all the blackmail letters were sent to Wuyi County government offices, except the police bureau.
Jia was caught on January 5 and police seized 10 unsent letters and other criminal evidences. They also found mug shots of more than 1,000 government officials in his laptop.
Jia allegedly confessed that he downloaded the mug shots from government websites and media reports and spent two weeks learning Photoshop skills in order to forge pornographic pictures he downloaded from the Internet. Some photos were shot with real prostitutes he hired.
Jia told police that he was blackmailing officials to get money for the coming Spring Festival, but he hadn't received any money yet.
