Man burns township building over court decision
A man in Jiaxing City of Zhejiang Province was detained today after he set fire to a local government building over a house lease dispute.
The man surnamed Xie owns a food service company in Jiaxing. He reportedly drove a van carrying a tank of gasoline to a meeting hall of the Wangdian Town government and set the building ablaze around 8am this morning, Zhejiang Online (zjol.com.cn) reported.
The fire was soon put out by firefighters after security guards called the police. Xie was caught at the scene and no one was injured in the incident, the report said.
Xie's Yongcheng Food Service Co rented a 690-square-meter house in Jiaxing Modern Logistics Park in July 2010 to run a restaurant. The lease ended September 31, 2011. Xie signed another one-year lease starting from January 1 this year but didn't pay rent as agreed in the contract.
The landlord sued Xie's company on August 6 and the court ruled the company should pay 20,000 yuan as rent plus penalty and move out of the house immediately, the report said.
Unsatisfied with the court ruling, Xie vented his anger by burning the government building. The case is still under investigation.
