Man commits suicide
A MAN was found hanged in a county government building in northern China days after his five-year-old grandson died from medicine prescribed by a doctor at a local hospital.
The 59-year-old, going by the alias Han Yuan-si, hanged himself in a dormitory for Jingle County government security guards in Shanxi Province's Xinzhou City on Sunday, Southern Metropolis Daily reported yesterday.
He had been escorted out of the building by security guards several times when he tried to lodge a complaint about his grandson's death, according to the report.
The boy went to the Jingle County People's Hospital with a fever and a cold a few days earlier. The doctor gave Han a prescription and asked him to go to a pharmacy outside the hospital. However, the boy spat out blood and died after taking the medicine, the report said.
Han reported the boy's death to the Jingle Health Bureau several times, but authorities ignored the case, the report said.
Han was repeatedly kicked out of the county government building by security guards on Sunday.
The county government agreed on Monday to pay 600,000 yuan (US$91,136) in compensation to Han's family.
