Man confesses to killing 2 women with home made gun
A man suspected of shooting two women dead in front of banks last month was arrested by Zhuji police in east China's Zhejiang Province early today.
The 60-year-old man, surnamed Xu, have confessed to the crimes. Police have seized his homemade gun and suspects that he may be linked to a series of jewelry robberies between 1995 and 2007, Zhejiang online reported.
On August 23 at 9pm Xu gunned down a 34-year-old female accountant, surnamed Jiang, outside a bank in Datang Town. Six days later he struck again, this time shooting a 55-year-old business owner, Yuan Wenmei, in the neck in the suburban Taozhu area of the city.
Jiang was pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital, while Yuan succumbed to her wounds in another hospital.
Yuan's death was first thought to have been due to a car accident.
Police however removed two bullets from the victims' bodies and found that they were shot by the same gun.
"The killer was apparently familiar with choosing where and when to kill people," a police officer said.
Xu was suspected of having a criminal history because he had made an effective silencer for the guns. His gun and silencer was very similar to one left behind by a jewelry thief after a series of robberies known as the "Oasis Jewelry Robbery" in the 1990s and 2000s.
Police are still investigating his possible involvement in these robberies.
