Man cut feet of infants at supermarket, police say
POLICE are hunting for a man who used a sharp object to lacerate the feet of babies in a local supermarket in Guangzhou, capital of southern China's Guangdong Province.
The man, in his 30s, was seen stalking a woman holding a two-month-old infant and taking something from his pocket when he got close to the boy, video footage provided by the Jusco supermarket in Baiyun District showed.
The boy suffered a 1-centimeter-long cut on his foot. When his mother, surnamed Zhou, took him to a nearby hospital, she was surprised to find another baby about three months old also suffered a similar cut at the same supermarket on Monday.
Zhou's baby didn't appear to have contracted any illness, but the foot needed to be treated and watched for a few days, a local newspaper, New Express, reported yesterday.
She said her baby didn't wear shoes, and she didn't notice his foot bleeding until his nanny, who held him, attempted to change him and found her hand covered in blood.
The suspect wore grey clothes and a pair of slippers, the footage showed. Police are conducting a citywide search.
