Man detained for discarding daughter's body
A MAN has been detained for discarding his 10-year-old daughter's corpse after she died of a disease.
The girl had died on April 13 after suffering a serious illness for four years.
The man, Zheng Yingdou, a native of east China's Jiangxi Province, and his wife could not afford a cremation so they wrapped the girl's body in a quilt and left it on a hill in Jingjiang's Meiling area of Jiangxi's neighboring Fujian Province.
Police recovered the body a week later.
Zheng was detained this week when he went to a police station in Jingjiang and asked for his daughter's ashes, today's Straits News reported.
Even though he knew he would be in trouble Zheng went to the police station carrying the first pay packet the couple had received since they arrived in Jingjiang.
The police were sympathetic to his plight and have detained him for five days although he could have faced up to 10 days detention.
