A SUSPECTED robber was shot dead in south China's Guangdong Province when he tried to assault police, local authorities said yesterday.
The dead man, surnamed Hu, was suspected of being a member of a gang involved in several robbery and rape cases in Shenzhen.
Police nabbed two other suspects at 8pm on Friday who confessed that Hu had been their accomplice since September.
Police found Hu in a rented apartment and demanded him show them an ID card.
But instead of the card, the man grabbed a knife and attempted to attack the officers.
The procuratorate of Baoan district in Shenzhen said it was lawful for police to open fire while being assaulted.
However, an investigation has been launched into the case.
