Man escapes serious injury as gas blast blows him from 3rd-story flat
A 31-year-old man miraculously survived a blast that blew him out of his third-story apartment in Dalian in northeast China’s Liaoning Province, Dalian Evening News reported today.
The man, surnamed Li, was in stable condition after he was hospitalized for burns on his face and waist. The burns are superficial, a doctor said. It was not clear how he escaped serious injury from the fall.
Li’s 60-year-old father, who also lived in the apartment, also escaped with only minor injuries to the head, the report said.
The blast occurred about 2:40pm yesterday while Li was using a computer in his bedroom.
The explosion smashed the covered balcony of Li’s apartment. Most windows in the residential building were shattered in the loud blast, and nearby automobiles were damaged, the report said.
“After a huge noise, the broken glass fell on my head, which felt like rain pouring down,” said a resident whose cheek was slashed as he passed by the scene.
Li’s father said they have piped-in gas but did not have it turned on when the blast happened. The case is still under investigation.
