Man executed for the death of ex-girlfriend

A MAN was executed yesterday for killing his pregnant ex-girlfriend by setting fire to her home in Wuzhou City in the southern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
The girl, surnamed Li, 19, was dating a new boyfriend, surnamed Chen, and was pregnant with him. On May 29, 2012, as Li and Chen slept inside, Li’s former boyfriend Wei Jinming, 27, set fire to their home at 1am. Li died from injuries on July 7, 2012, while Chen suffered 57 percent burns on his body. Wei was sentenced to death on January 31, 2013, for intentional homicide. He appealed to the higher court, but the verdict was upheld. The execution was approved by the Supreme People’s Court.
