Man flips a file photo for top award in national contest

The gold prize winner of a national photo contest was suspected of stealing someone else's photo from an album of stock photos and tweaking it with a flip-image tool.

Hou Xie, the top winner in this year's contest organized by China Photographers Association, is in Hunan Province. He won two gold prizes, one bronze prize, plus two other awards among more than 180,000 competitors.

"Tomorrow's Reality", the gold-winning photo Hou presented, shows dying trees in a bleak village.

Ironically, an ad creator in Jiangsu Province, Yang Jianghui, found the picture familiar when his boss once used it as an example to show creative the photographer was, Nanjing-based Yangtze Evening News reported today.

Yang looked up in the album of stock photos he bought ten years ago and soon found the exact picture, only in an opposite position. Yang said the photo had no byline in the album.

Chen told the newspaper he had put the evidences online and officially reported to the China Photographers Association about Hou's cheating.
