Man found, awarded for saving tot from death fall

THE man who climbed outside a third-floor window to save a toddler from falling down a window ledge above him has been found in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong Province and was awarded 50,000 yuan for heroism, today's Nanfang Daily reported.

Tianhe District government said they would be happy if Zhou Chong, 23, could work in their district and they are willing to offer him a job, the paper said.

Zhou, a jobless native of Hubei Province, was on his way for a job interview on June 3 when he was attracted by a panic crowd near a building and saw a small girl dangling on the window ledge, her head caught in the opening of metal grating that was used to hold flower pots.

He rushed into the building, climbed outside the third-floor window, right below the girl and let her stand on his hand to relieve the pain of her head before the police arrived.

After the girl was saved, Zhou left quietly. Moved by his selfless act caught in videos taken by onlookers, the city launched a "manhunt" for the hero. It was Zhou's friend who tipped the media to his whereabouts on Saturday.
