Man gets death for murdering wife; mistress gets life

A man in Jiangsu Province was sentenced to death for murdering his pregnant wife. His mistress was given a life sentence as his conspirator, Yangtze Evening News reported today.
The victim named Zhang Lan was reported missing while having a walk in Xiaoshihu Park in Suzhou on the night of November 6 last year. One hour later her body was found in a lake in the park by police.
The next day, her husband Zhu Jiangtao confessed to the police that he conspired with his mistress Zhu Lijun and drowned Zhang in the lake because he could not get a divorce from her.
Zhu allegedly confessed that Zhu Lijun was his ex-girlfriend and he was forced to break up with her by his parents because Zhu Lijun's family was poor. His parents persuaded him to marry Zhang, who was from a well-off family though she was not pretty.
Zhu got married with Zhang in May 2010 but still had affairs with Zhu Lijun. Since Zhu Lijun had had three abortions for him, he decided to carry out the murder.
According to the court, both suspects had made no appeals by yesterday.
