Man gets life in jail for throwing acid on boy

A MAN was sentenced to life in jail yesterday for splashing sulphuric acid on a 12-year-old boy in a revenge attack in Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu Province.

The Nanjing Intermediate People’s Court learnt the man, Cai Shilin, was in a relationship with the boy’s mother. He bought a sedan worth about 420,000 yuan (US$67,741) to the woman when they were dating. He targeted the child in May last year after she broke up with him. The 51-year-old surrendered to police one day after the crime. The boy suffered severe acid burns on his face, neck, chest and abdomen and struggled with psychological problems after that. The man’s family paid 1 million yuan as compensation to the victim’s family.
