Man gets year in jail for hiring juveniles to hand out prostitution ad cards

A MAN who employed juveniles to hand out pornographic cards advertising prostitution services was given a year in prison and a 2,000 yuan (US$325.75) fine by a court in south China’s Guangdong Province.

The defendant, surnamed Zhou, asked two children to hand out the cards near the Municipal Services Building of Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong, in the downtown area on October 25, according to prosecutors.

The two juveniles were caught by police with 321 cards. That evening, Zhou was captured. Police found 8,300 more cards at his home.

Zhou pleaded guilty and said he was acting for his boss, who had hired more children and adults to hand out cards in teams.

Among the juveniles, the youngest was only 11, he said. Most of them had become separated from their families and had been hanging out at railway stations or parks before being hired by the illegal group for 1,500 yuan per month.

Juveniles older than 16 were also punished with detentions between 5 and 10 days, while those younger than 16 years were sent to social welfare homes.
