Man given 4 years in jail for gnawing friend's face
A MAN was sentenced to four years in prison on assault charges for gnawing on his friend's face in Beijing after drinking, a city court said.
The attacker, surnamed Li, bit and tore the skin on the face of the victim, surnamed Wang, after they drank together but then had a fight in October 2011 in Xicheng District of Beijing, the district court said over the weekend.
Medical experts said Wang suffered serious injures because some parts of his face were bitten off.
Li left a 12-centimeter-long, M-shaped scar behind Wang's left eyebrow and another 2.6-centimeter scar across the eyebrow, the court said.
Guo Hanfeng, director of the mental health department of a Wenzhou hospital, said in a similar face-gnawing case that the attackers were likely suffering from "complicated intoxication syndrome," which made them lose control.
In the similar case, a man surnamed Dong gnawed on a female driver's face on June 29 in Wenzhou City in eastern China's Zhejiang Province. Police said Dong was in a coma for seven hours after he was caught after blocking the woman's car on the road, climbing onto the hood and then gnawing on her face.
After he woke up, Dong told police he could not remember anything about the assault. He remembered only drinking heavily with friends at lunch. Urine tests of Dong and Li showed they didn't take any drugs before the assaults.
