Man goes on trial for killing parents and maid
A BEIJING court yesterday heard that an unemployed man shot and killed his parents and their ayi with a homemade gun.
The murder trial of Zhang Jianguo, 50, began yesterday at the Beijing No.1 Intermediate People's Court.
Prosecutors said Zhang added sleeping pills to his parents' soup on February 7, 2011, before shooting their ayi, 48, in the head twice and stabbing her several times, Legal Evening News reported.
He then shot his mother and father in the head with a homemade gun and stabbed each of them in the chest several times, the court heard.
Zhang was also said to have tried to kill his brother the next day. But his brother escaped and alerted police, according to the report.
Zhang was said to have used the gunpowder from firecrackers to make 14 homemade guns starting in October 2010.
A source close to the family told the Beijing-based newspaper Zhang's girlfriend had split up with him because he and his family were poor.
After the relationship ended Zhang had remained single, according to the family friend. Zhang had been unemployed for at least a decade.
No verdict was given.
