Man has implant gel removed from his head

A man who used breast implant gel to fill a sunken area in his skull 14 years ago to stop people laughing at his odd-looking head now wants to take the implant out.

Xiang Feng, a 24-year-old resident in Yanjiang in Guangdong Province, saw an ad for breast augment surgery in 1998 and decided to have the same surgery on his head, believing it would change his life, Southern Metropolis Daily reported today.

Doctors at a Guangzhou hospital in the provincial capital used four bottles of gel and a large amount of bone powder to reshape his head and charged him 1,800 yuan (US$283).

After the surgery, Xiang always felt dizzy, drowsy and nausea and he learned that polyacrylamide gel has been banned in China because it can cause cancer.

Yesterday, he received an operation at Guangzhou Wujing Hospital to remove the implant and Dr Tan Xindong said there is some residue inside Xiang's head but should not affect his health, and he suggested the young man to get some psychological counseling.
