Man held after police find bodies in village
A MAN has been arrested after a killing spree that left 19 people dead in a village in southwest China’s Yunnan Province.
Yang Qingpei, who was born in 1989 and from the same village, was detained in provincial capital Kunming, according to a police statement.
The killings were in remote Yema village in a mountainous area some 200 kilometers south.
Xinhua news agency reported earlier that the villagers were found dead at their homes yesterday morning.
A list with the victims’ names circulating online showed they included 11 males and eight females, with the youngest a 3-year-old girl and the oldest 72. Four were under the age of 18.
The Ministry of Public Security has sent a working group to oversee the case and manage the investigation, reports said.
