Man held over TV face slashing

A MAN alleged to have slashed the face of a member of staff of China Central Television outside the television station was yesterday held by police.

The suspect, surnamed Xu, from Liaoning Province, is said to have attacked the TV station staffer, surnamed Lin, inflicting three wounds on her head and nose on Thursday.

Beijing police published the information on its official microblog on Weibo.com.

After a picture of the blood-stained woman making a phone call began circulating online, Lu Zhengbiao, director of the news center of China Network Television, a web-based TV station owned by CCTV, confirmed on his microblog that the victim was a staff member.

The suspect was said to have asked Lin whether she was a CCTV staffer. When she said she was, he slashed her before driving off.

Lin is now recovering in hospital and her injuries are not life-threatening, Lu said.

Online discussion included speculation that the attacker was a hitman or that he had come to Beijing to lodge a complaint and had sought help from the TV station without success.
