Man held over amusement park brawl

A MAN who allegedly shot at and injured security guards in an brawl at an amusement park has been arrested by Guangzhou police, the China News Service reported today.

The man, surnamed Fang, 26, from southern Guangdong Province, was arrested in his hometown at around 4am on Saturday. Another 16 men have been arrested in the province and a handgun, bullets and other weapons confiscated.

On April 7 a gang of more than 40 armed men drove to the Guangzhou Grand World Scenic and began shooting at security guards and smashing windows.

Brandishing fishing spears, swords and iron bars and speaking in Mandarin and the Chaoshan dialect, some of the gang carried firearms.

The gang quickly split into five groups targeting security offices around the park. A guard surnamed Cao looked out from a power supply room but was shot in the collarbone.

The thugs then punched and kicked another two guards, firing their guns and destroying equipment inside the power supply room. Other men attacked two entrances, security guard dormitories and a plaza in the park. The attack lasted for more than an hour, a witness said.


Police are continuing their investigations.
