Man held over beating
AN unlicensed day-care center worker in southwest China has been arrested for allegedly beating an eight-year-old boy with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder to death because he made too much noise at night.
The 44-year-old man, surnamed Wei, who was the husband of the center's director and worked part time, said he was woken by the child's incessant screams and crying, when other children and staff were sleeping in the private center in Nanning, capital of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, in July.
After taking the boy, named as Xiao Lin, to a hall, Wei allegedly beat him until he was quiet. Wei then went to sleep, leaving the boy lying on the floor for the rest of the night, news portal Gxnews.com reported yesterday.
The next morning, the center's director, surnamed Feng, took Xiao Lin to a local hospital after finding him in the hall. Xiao Lin was pronounced dead of severe soft tissue injures, the Guangxi -Nationality Hospital said.
The parents called the police after Feng told them of their son's death, which she said was caused by natural causes.
An investigation showed the center, which boarded 40 children with behavioral difficulties in its two rented buildings, has no government license or certificates for its 15 employees. Feng said it is waiting for approval due to prolonged legal process. It charged 1,500 yuan (US$224.70) for a one-month stay per child.
