Man helps relative, fined
A MAN who gave a relative money to thank him for driving him to the airport was surprised to find that they were both accused of taking part in the operation of an illegal cab.
The driver, surnamed Pan, drove his niece's husband, surnamed Chen, from Taixing in the east Jiangsu Province, to an airport in the provincial capital of Nanjing on May 25.
When they arrived, Chen placed 650 yuan (US$102.80) in Pan's car to pay for the fuel and toll costs, despite Pan's initial refusal to take the money. Just as they were about to say goodbye, Nanjing transport inspectors came up to check if they were involved in an illegal cab operation. Though the inspectors later confirmed they were relatives, Pan was still fined 8,000 yuan.
A lawyer said inspectors should consider all the facts, not rigidly follow the rules.
