Man hid dad's corpse to collect pension

A MAN in Beijing has been detained for not reporting his father's death for more than half a year so that he could continue to claim his pensions.

The suspect surnamed Li has been detained by police for alleged fraud, Beijing Daily reported today.

Li's father passed away in January due to cardiovascular disease. In order to continue to claim his father's 2,700 yuan (US$423) monthly pension, Li, who is unemployed, didn't report the death and hid the body in his home.

To cover up his crime, Li fought with his brother who came to visit his father and drove him away. He claimed to neighbors that his father had traveled somewhere else.

Li's neighbors smelt the odor of a decomposing body and saw black fluid dropping from upstairs this month and alerted police.

After investigation police ruled out foul play in Li's father's death, but seized Li on suspicion of fraud.
