Man hired as human bomb in deadly office blast

THE suspect who killed himself and three others in a bomb blast in a demolition office of a small town in Yunnan Province on May 10 was hired by others as a human bomb, local newspaper Shenghuo Xinbao said yesterday.

Zhao Dengyong, 26, was paid 100 yuan (US$16) by two villagers to enter the Baihetan Town government building and the two villagers detonated the bomb he carried via a mobile phone, the paper cited sources at the Yunnan Public Security Bureau.

The two plotters, Deng Deyong and Song Chaoyu, both from Yibo Village, were taken away by police for investigation on May 31, the paper said. They confessed that they were unsatisfied with the relocation deal offered by the town government.

But Yunnan police didn't confirm the information as their investigation is still going on.

Earlier, Zhao's family said Zhao was a scapegoat in the bomb attack that also injured 13 others because he had never touched explosives nor did he have access to them. His motive remained unknown.

But police later published Zhao's diary and online chat logs, their interviews with local residents, and video footages of the bombing. They believed Zhao had hatred for society.
