Man in fatal bank robbery to be executed
A BANK robber who killed two clerks and robbed more than 39,000 yuan (US$6,135) in northwest China's Gansu Province was sentenced to death yesterday, Lanzhou Morning Post reported.
The court said the convict named Fu Rong, 38, had entered the business hall of Post Bank's Qilidun Branch in Tianshui City armed with a knife on the noon of June 19, stabbed two clerks to death and got away with over 39,000 yuan in cash.
Fu was captured two days later, and confessed that he had robbed the bank to pay his family's debts, the court said.
Gu's lawyer pleaded that his client suffered from mental problems when he committed the crime, but the claim was rejected by the court because of lacking evidence.
