Man lives in 'egg' as Beijing flats beyond his reach
EAGER for a cozy home but frustrated over Beijing's skyrocketing housing price, a young man simply made himself an egg-like mobile hut woven with thousands of bamboo strips at a cost of 6,400 yuan (US$960).
Dai Haifei, a 24-year-old native of Hunan Province, works for a Beijing architectural firm. He took advantage of his professional training to build the two-meter-high, wheeled hut which contains a bed, a toilet and a battery lamp, Beijing News reported today.
Dai parked the mini-house in front of his company's building where he can get water and electricity for free. Dai often fills a water tank and recharges the battery in the office before retiring into his "egg."
