Man makes bomb threat over gang-rape not guilty plea
A WELDER in rural Shaanxi Province was caught making a bomb threat against the Beijing Public Security bureau after the teenage son of a well-known military singer pleaded not guilty in a sensational gang rape case.
Zeng Guotai, 32, heard about the plea on the Internet on July 10, and felt it was an injustice, Chinese Business View reported today.
To vent his anger, he posted several comments, including the bomb threat, on his microblog.
Police in Fengxiang County ordered Zeng to delete post, and he was punished with five days of administrative detention for "disturbing social order," police said.
The rape case involves a 17-year-old identified by courts as Li. The teen is the son of famous singer Li Shuangjiang, Xinhua reported.
On July 9, Li and four others were charged with gang raping a woman at a Beijing hotel in February. The next day, Li's attorneys, Chen Shu and Wang Ran, said their client would plead not guilty.
The defense attorneys' statement said the case occurred late night at a bar, when underage people were persuaded by adult bartenders to drink large quantities of alcohol. They then checked into a hotel, the statement said.
Li told his family that the women was a "bar girl" and had agreed to have sex, media reports said.
