Man may face execution over fatal accident

A MAN in northeast China has been arrested in a drunk-driving-related fatal hit and run and faces a possible death sentence.
He is the first person in Shenyang, capital of Liaoning Province, charged with the offense of endangering public security through dangerous means since the recent national drunk-driving crackdown.
The man allegedly hit four people and a cab before fleeing the scene.
Qian Jin allegedly hit scooter rider Zhou Chunhua about 3pm on Liaoshen Road E. of Shenyang's Tiexi District on September 14, media outlets reported yesterday.
He drove on and hit three cyclists, Li Deshun, Li Chunyue and Sui Minghan, before ramming into Gao Chunshan's taxi and being intercepted by the cabbie.
Sui was later pronounced dead after receiving emergency treatment at hospital. Zhou and the two Lis suffered cuts and scrapes.
Qian was detected with 300 milligrams of alcohol per liter of blood, far beyond the upper limit of 80 milligrams.
The Tiexi District People's Procuratorate issued the arrest warrant.
On September 9, Li Jingquan in Foshan City in southern China's Guangdong Province had his death penalty commuted to life in prison.
Li killed two while driving under the influence of alcohol on September 16, 2006, and was accused of endangering public security through dangerous means, a felony that can lead to the death penalty.
