Man pleads guilty to raping girl, 11, and forcing her into prostitution

A MAN pleaded guilty yesterday to forcing an 11-year-old girl into prostitution for two months after kidnapping and raping her in central Hunan Province.

Six other defendants in the case pleaded not guilty.

The girl's mother Tang Juan told the Intermediate People's Court of Yongzhou City that the defendants should be given the death penalty for what they did to her daughter, who suffered severe mental trauma and sexually transmitted diseases that could lead to infertility in the future, Sanxiang Metropolis reported today.

Tang also asked for 1.84 million yuan (US$276,900) in compensation to cover medical fees, economic losses and mental anguish.

The court said Zhou Junhui, a 23-year-old Yongzhou native, who pleaded guilty, lured the girl to a video shop where he raped her in October 2006. Zhou forced the girl to be a prostitute in a salon, threatening to tell everyone about the rape if she refused to cooperate, the report said.

The girl, whose name was not given to protect her privacy, told the court she was paid 100 yuan each time she had sex with a man. She was allowed to keep 70 yuan and the rest would go to the salon owners Chen Gang and Qin Xing, who are among the seven defendants. The girl was beaten if she tried to escape, the report said.

The victim told the court she was raped and badly beaten for five hours by defendants Jiang Junjun, Qin Bing, Liu Run and Lan Xiaoqiang during one forced encounter in late December 2006.

Tang saw her daughter at the salon by chance later that month. A relative then pretended to be a customer and rescued the girl, the court heard. However, local police refused to refer the case to prosecutors, saying it was a tiny matter, until Tang tipped off the media and triggered a public uproar late last year, according to the report. Three policemen were later suspended for duty negligence.

The court's medical reports showed the girl had contracted a string of sexual diseases including genital blisters that are hard to cure. She also suffered from mental problems.

Jiang, Qin, Liu and Lan retracted previous admissions of guilt, telling the court they just had sex with a prostitute and had no knowledge of the victim's real age. They had previously admitted to raping her and acknowledged she was underage, the report said.

Salon owners Chen and Qin told the court they didn't know the girl was forced into prostitution.

The Intermediate People's Court of Yongzhou City didn't announce a verdict.
