Man says wife can beat him each week

A MAN with a violent wife has taken the unusual step of signing an agreement with her that allows his spouse to beat him once a week.

Zhang, 32, said his wife Chen, who is skilled in martial arts, frequently beats him during disputes over petty things such as who will wash the dishes, Chongqing Evening News reported yesterday.

Both Zhang, a photographer, and Chen want the marriage to continue and have sought a way to end her violent tirades.

"I don't want to beat him very often, but I cannot stop my hands when we have a dispute," Chen, a sales manager, told the newspaper.

She admitted that she felt regret each time she beat her husband and saw him with a black eye.

She told the newspaper that she would stop her violent ways because of the agreement, which was signed with her father as a witness.

Chen had beaten Zhang three times last week until they signed the agreement on Saturday, the report said.

Zhang reminded Chen on Sunday that she was not allowed to beat him any more that week when another argument started.

Punching bag

"You're not allowed to beat me today in accordance with the agreement," Zhang reportedly said when Chen waved her fist.

She refrained from striking Zhang because the agreement stipulates that she needs to stay with her parents for three days if she breaches the rule.

The couple got married six months ago after meeting at a mutual friend's birthday party.

The report said he was warned by friends not to become Chen's punching bag when they started dating.

Zhang knew of her kung fu skill when they first met and he felt her wrath on one occasion when he made a joke about her hairstyle.
