Man sent for mental treatment after harassing and attacking woman
A MAN accused of touching a woman’s breast and injuring her in an attack has been sent to a hospital for compulsory mental evaluation and treatment in east China’s Nanjing city, police said today.
A microblogger on Weibo.com she had seen a middle-aged man ride up on a bicycle and touch a young woman’s breast near a bus station yesterday afternoon.
When the woman tried to prevent him from fleeing, he took a U-shaped bike lock and struck her on the head, the microblogger said.
Pictures were posted showing blood covering her head and arms. Passersby held the man until his police and the man’s father arrived. Another microblogger, claiming to be friend of the victim, said the man was 44 years old and his father, a retired doctor, claimed his son was mentally ill.
Instead of apologizing, the father told the victim’s parents that he was unable to afford the woman’s medical bills, the microblogger said. Police in the city’s Gulou District announced today that the man was taken to the police station for interrogation, but he talked in a confused manner.
He was sent to receive compulsory treatment. The woman was hospitalized for lacerations on her head, and community officials paid a visit this morning, police said.
