Man stabs four people at Kunming airport

A YOUNG man attacked four people with a knife in a waiting hall at Kunming International Airport last night, a Kunming-based newspaper reported today.

Two are still in critical condition in a hospital in the capital of Yunnan Province, according to the Metropolitan Time News.

A quarrel at the Lucky Air reception desk on the second floor led to the stabbing of a family of three and their friend.

Police caught the young man with a knife immediately after the incident.

A witness told the newspaper that the young man quarreled with the family about 10:30pm and soon after he attacked them.

It's not clear if the man was intending to travel as he hadn't passed airport security checks, according to the report.

The attacker may have drank some wine before the incident as he was very emotional and didn't run away afterwards, an airport employee surnamed Ding told the newspaper.

Wang Weiyan, one of the injured, planned to fly to Xishuangbanna in southern Yunnan with her brother-in-law Guo Guoping, sister-in-law Li Hua and boyfriend Ni Wei.

Police are investigating the case, the report said.
