Man tried for deadly road rage in Beijing

A Beijing court tried a 61-year-old man yesterday for intentionally killing three people and injuring eight others in an attempt to kill staff members of a local factory he had unsuccessfully tried to sue in court.

Jin Fusheng was charged with murder and jeopardizing public safety.

After years of ownership disputes over a factory building with Sanlitun Economics Management Center in Beijing, Jin became increasingly consumed with the case. On the morning of December 26, he drove his Sedan to the center in an attempt to hit staff members with his car, prosecutors said yesterday.

After hitting his first victim who worked as a driver for the center, Jin steered his Sedan away from the center, sped up and hit a pedestrian trying to cross the street.

Jin then drove onto the grounds of the Workers’ Stadium, where he hit another 10 people.

When he hit a minivan, Jin’s car finally came to a halt, prosecutors said. In total, three people were killed in the road rage while eight were injured. Police officers arrested Jin on the spot.

During the hearing yesterday, Jin pledged guilty on all counts and apologized to the victims’ families.

Jin’s deadly road rage came after years of dispute over real estate both Jin and the Sanlitun center claimed to own. Jin tried to take the company to court last year, but found his lawsuit dismissed due to lack of evidence.

Since then, Jin started protesting on the street and on Tiananmen Square.
