Man wants arbitration over police compensation
A MAN who was wrongly detained by police for over a week plans to seek arbitration as the police was willing to pay him only 3,000 yuan (US$453) in compensation, far short of the 30,000 yuan it promised earlier.
Wang Peng's attorney reached an oral agreement with Wu Haibo, deputy director of Wuzhong City Public Security Bureau in northwest Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, on the 30,000 yuan compensation on December 3 after the bureau admitted their mistake, Oriental Morning Post reported today.
However, Wuzhong police broke its promise and was willing to pay only 3,000 yuan instead, Wang's father said.
Wang was taken away by Wuzhong police on November 23 from his workplace in Lanzhou in the neighboring Gansu Province for posting an employment scandal involving his former university roommate, whose parents are high-ranking officials.
The case was later ruled as a civil dispute, not a criminal offense.
