Man who killed village head executed
A MAN who killed the head of his village committee over the demolition of his house was executed yesterday after the Supreme People’s Court upheld his death sentence.
Jia Jinglong, from north China’s Hebei Province, was convicted of murdering He Jianhua, head of the Beigaoying committee in Shijiazhuang’s Chang’an District, with a modified nail gun on February 19, 2015. The court said Jia had been acting in retaliation after his house was demolished as part of a wider renovation project.
Shijiazhuang Intermediate People’s Court, acting on the execution order signed by the SPC president, carried out the sentence after allowing Jia to meet his family.
Jia had originally been sentenced to death by the Shijiazhuang court on November 24, 2015.
On May 17 this year, the Hebei Provincial Higher People’s Court rejected Jia’s appeal and upheld the sentence after a second trial. The court then passed Jia’s case to the SPC.
The SPC said Jia’s crime was “extremely serious” and the method “extremely cruel.” The killing had an “extremely vile impact on society,” it added.
